A review of The Stables Cafe by Margaret Goddard written on Tuesday 19th of August 2014
Service has improved tremendously since my last review in 2011. However, we are frequent visitors, and every time we visit the cafe and ask for double espressos, the staff attempt to charge us double the price of a single espresso - today it is £1.85 for an espresso and they tried to charge £3.70 for a double. This is the only place we have ever visited that price double espressos in this way. All other cafes charge between 30p and 60p for an extra shot - for obvious reasons. We always challenge the price and, following negotiations, it is always reduced. This is ludicrous. Today, the staff member gave the reason that she doesn't drink coffee herself so can't be held responsible for the pricing structure.
On a separate note, it had rained during the night, but nobody had thought to come outside and dry off the chairs and tables ready for the customers to use. People were drying the chairs off themselves with hankies and tissues. .
