A review of Aagrah Restaurant by Disappointed written on Sunday 7th of March 2010
There is no doubting the warm welcome and efficiency of the Maitre D at the Aagrah Garforth. Arriving early to celebrate a friend's birthday we were greeted warmly and advised to have a drink at the bar. It was a very busy Saturday night around 7.15pm and the place was bustling. The reception/waiting area was full, with people arriving in a steady stream. What I don't get is the Aagrah's popularity.
Our party waited well over an hour for our food which, when it did finally arrive, was disappointing to say the very least. The onion bahjis were little more than battered onion rings served almost cold.
The chicken biryani (a favourite of ours) was no better. The chicken and rice was cold, lumpy and so overly spiced it was impossible to taste the chicken. The accompanying vegetable curry was luke warm and sloppy with no discernable vegetables. The only thing in the Aagrah's favour was the attentiveness of the staff.
If I had to score the Aagrah out of ten it would receive a very poor 2. If you want an Indian dining experience par excellence, try the Shuhag in Featherstone - the food is exquisite, the price reasonable and whilst only a fraction of the size of the Aagraah, provides excellent service.
The restaurant was packed during the time we were there and one has to question how they can possibly produce food of a consistently high quality when they are catering for such huge numbers. The answer is of course - they can't.
